When it comes to becoming more creative, there's a handy tool at your
fingertips right now - the computer. At first thought, there's something
creepy about the combination of computers and creativity. It's one thing to
have machines take over mechanical tasks, but it's another to have them
thinking for themselves. If we ignore the work of
science fiction writers, however, there's nothing to worry about.
An unaided PC might be able
to write the formula best sellers you see on the airport bookstall, but
here's little danger of them dominating real creativity. Think of the computer as a way of stimulating your own ideas, though, and the possibilities become interesting. Some creative thinking is still best done with a big piece of paper and a pencil - but an electronic helper can make it a lot easier to break out of an ordinary frame of mind. |
